Prof. Dr. Tanja Kühbacher, MD, PhD, is Head of the Department of Gastroenterology/Internal Medicine at Asklepios Westklinikum Rissen in Hamburg, and Professor of Gastroenterology at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Germany. At Christian-Albrechts-University, Prof. Kühbacher also is a member of the Cluster of Excellence in Inflammation at Interfaces and a member of the Mucosa Research Group of the Institute for Clinical Molecular Biology. She is a member oft he Faculty of Medicine and serves as an Equal Opportunity Commissioner. She was Deputy member of the Ethics Committee and also Environmental Protection Commissioner and Radiation Protection Commissioner fort he General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Prof. Dr Kühbacher earned her PhD at the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology, and the Department of Clinical Chemistry in Hannover Medical School Germany. She studied,was educated and worked at Hannover Medical School, University of Glasgow, Scotland and Hiroshima Medical School, Japan and the USA. Prof. Kühbacher worked at the UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL CHARITÉ , BERLIN, IV Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SCHLESWIG - HOLSTEIN (UKSH), CAMPUS KIEL, Department of Internal Medicine I - Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nutrition and Age Medicine before she became the Head of the department in Hamburg at Asklepios Westklinikum.

Prof. Kühbacher is a very experienced investigator for clinical trials with over 100 clinical trails (Phase I-IV). She has published numerous original papers, reviews and book chapters.
Since 2007 Prof Kühbacher is the Chairman of “Stiftung Darmerkrankungen”( www.stiftung-darmerkrankungen.de), a foundation for chronic bowel diseases. She is also a member of the advisory board of the German Crohn´s and Colitis Foundation
